Writing to Play Announces Commissions!
Having recently launched our new Writing to Play programme, we are delighted to announce that two local performance writers - Anna Harriott and Vicky Hancock - have been commissioned to write two original plays created in collaboration with members of our Youth Theatre.
We are thrilled that both Anna and Vicky have agreed to work with us on these exciting new commissions, projects which reflect Writing to Play’s mission to create new opportunities for local performance writers and the creation of new theatre work for, with and about Winchester and Hampshire in surprising ways and unexpected places.
On being asked about the commissions, Anna said it had given her “a much needed boost as we come out of a year of lockdowns... it's a wonderful feeling to be entering a new writing process knowing that I have the support of that [Playmakers] community as well as their dedicated creative team.”
"The most important thing for any theatre writer's development is to actually produce work that performers get to perform and audiences get to experience.”
Vicky said, “I’m looking forward to giving voice and language to the motivations and concerns of a group of young people, and seeing how that develops into a piece of theatre.”
Both Anna and Vicky will be supported by Playmakers’ Writer-in-Residence, Richard Hurford as well as working alongside our Young People’s Producer, Liam Gifford on their respective works. Liam added that he hopes “this is the first of many exciting collaborations between local writers and our youth theatre.”
