Hundreds of school children join in Hat Fair Carnival

Hat Fair 2019 burst on to the streets of Winchester with the festival’s bright and colourful Carnival.

Hundreds of local school children paraded from The Great Hall to Abbey Gardens, in bold costumes inspired by the heritage, culture and nature of the city and surrounding areas.

Organised by Kat Henderson, Engagement Producer for Playmakers, in collaboration with Isle of Wight-based The New Carnival Company – for months they had held workshops for school teachers to learn dance routines and how to make costumes including tabards, crowns and giant wings, to teach their pupils in time for the Carnival.

Thanks go out to the following schools that made this year’s Carnival such a success:

  • Cherbourg Primary School
  • Kings’ School Winchester
  • St Swithun’s
  • St Faith’s Church of England Primary School
  • Western Primary Schol
  • Winnall Primary School
  • Winchester Families and Pre-school groups
