'Let's Explore...' success!

Last week we were delighted to welcome a great number of young people to Theatre Royal Winchester to join in with our Playmakers 'Let’s Explore…' series of workshops. Exploring a whole range of theatre making skills including sound design, writing plays, designing set and costume, acting, working outdoors, directing and devising new plays.

Singer-songwriter, Louise Jordan, led a sound design session which gave young people the chance to write their own music for the stage. Anna Harriott, Creative Director of Tall Tree Theatre, ran writing sessions where those aged 10-25 worked on their own original playscripts. Play to the Crowd professionals also led sessions, with our Young People’s Producer, Liam Gifford, and Engagement Producer, Kat Henderson, running workshops on performing, and set and costume design. Hat Fair and Playmakers Director, Andrew Loretto, worked with young people on outdoor performance, introducing them to site-specific work.

Liam Gifford says, "It was a real joy to spend the week leading, assisting and observing this whole range of workshops, being able to witness first hand how our Playmakers offer encourages our participants to engage their imagination, to work proactively with others as a team and to explore with us how to make their own theatre work."

After the success of this week, we can’t wait to launch our new Playmakers Youth Theatre offer for 7-25 year olds in the Autumn as well as bringing back a new series of 'Let’s Explore…' workshops for the October half-term.

I would like to thank all the young people and their families for choosing us and can’t wait to work with them all again in the future!
